Tide Race say: "Both Xcite and Xplore are available in _S
versions. This denotes a smaller version
of the original kayak design. These
smaller variations have been scaled down
to ergonomically fit shorter and lighter
paddlers. The designs have been
sympathetically scaled to preserve the
handing and stability characteristics of
the original design, so proportionally an Xplore_S for a small paddler feels and
performs like an Xplore for a larger
paddler, as with the Xcite and Xcite_S.
This design process is only possible
because of the accuracy of using Computer
Aided Design.
The greatest advantage to the
paddlers, beyond having a correctly fitting
cockpit, is the smaller _S models
proportionally keep their hull efficiency,
so a smaller / lighter paddler should easily
maintain the same cruising speed and
proportional effort as a larger paddler in
the larger kayak. Occasionally, larger
paddlers may prefer the tighter fit and
sporty performance of an undersized model
and use it as a day paddling boat."
Construction:
Tide Race Kayaks are available in two
constructions, Classic and Hardcore. The
Classic is a rugged and easily repairable
laminate, designed to take years of hard
work and occasional abuse. It is our most
dependable and steadfast layup. The
HardCore is a slightly lighter construction,
featuring high specification materials. It
is a stiffer construction than the Classic,
with greater impact resistance. For colour
