OPEN CANOEING SOCIAL WEEKEND

ON THE RIVER MEDWAY IN KENT

For those of you who missed our last open canoeing social paddle at New Year, this is your opportunity to join us on our next social paddling weekend. Those of you who attended the last one please feel free to join us again. It was great to see 24 open canoes on the river and hopefully this time there will be more.

This paddle is a social event and a way to meet other fellow open canoeists, exchange tips and advice as well as paddling along the River Medway. Novices, intermediates and advanced are all welcome. You can join us just for the day or both days and for those of you who wish to camp overnight, we have secured the Marlin site at Yalding right on the River Medway. There is a fee of £2 per person to camp overnight which I'm sure you can all afford!

On Saturday we will be paddling upstream from Yalding towards Sluice Weir at East Peckham, where if the canoe shoot is open we will be having a little play! If we have time we may be able to reach the next weir but it will depend on how fast we all paddle. We will then return to Yalding and set up camp and the BBQ. Food and drink will be available at a small fee so bring some loose change. Don't forget to bring a packed lunch though, a warm drink and a spare change of clothes!

Sunday we will be paddling downstream to Wateringbury and beyond to Teston if there is time as we will be against the current ( if any) on the way back.

Start / Finish Times:

Saturday 17th May - 10:30 am from Yalding Canal and aim to return by 4pm.

Sunday 18th May - 10:30am from Yalding Weir and aim to return by 4pm

Parking is available during the day along the road by the canal or in the field at teapot island (£2 for the day) the other side of the river. Overnight parking is only permitted along the road by the canal.
